Poker Review #1 7/23-7/31@25nl

f:id:keinoblog:20160731163754p:plain

Played from 7/23 to 7/31 a total of 12,970 hands losing 1,827bb.

OVERALL IMPRESSION (without looking into data).

- I played a lot better as I narrowed down by preflop opening range, folding small pocket pairs (<88) especially in ep, which led to evening out my winning/losings around hands 4300-7200, still not allowing me to produce a winning curve.

- A lot of losing came from bad calls. Especially with high pocket pairs (QQ>). Also leading to tilt time, making terrible calls and bluffs.

- Hands 10,200-12,500 were the only constant winning sessions, a lot having to do with good hands and poor opponents. But also seemed to be from selectively playing in position, allowing me to make wiser decisions overall.

REVIEW FROM DATA

What to search from data.

To keep things simple, the review frame will come from the following 2 questions:

- How could I decrease losings?
- How could I increase winnings?

but mainly focus on the former, as the corrections seem to have more margin and are also more obvious.

So when did I lose? How much did I lose? Why did I lose?

Let's look at loosing showdowns.

f:id:keinoblog:20160731165655p:plain

- I lost a total of 6,850bb in 1,670 hands. I played a total of 2,257 hands (Total Hands 12,970 VPIP 17.4). Which means I went to showdown and lost 73.9% of the hands I played...?? (Pretty bad...)

Let's categorize loosings by lost amount.

- 0-10bb: 925bb in 1,509hands.
- 10-30bb: 1,703bb in 98hands.
- 30-50bb: 1,139bb in 29hands.
- 50-70bb-: 640bb in 11hands.
- 70-90bb: 544bb in 7hands.
- 90bb-: 1,949bb in 19hands.

This shows that 87% of my losings come from just 164hands, a mear 10% of my losing hands and just 7% of my playing hands, exactly where correction needs to be made.

So what did I do wrong?

More analysis is needed but just looking at the 19hands of 90bb+ losings, it is apparent that:

- Most losings came from calling with just one pair, in situations where opponents showed great strenghts (check raising, triple barreling, and such.)
- Many losings came from bluffing against strong pairs especially on dry boards or when opponents had my representing hands (the nuts).
- Some losings came from calling with two pair or better, but was an easy fold situation.

Probably the same mistakes that I am making in other losing situations.

So what should I do next?

- Simply stop calling betting opponents with just one pair, or when my hand is apparently weak in contrast to the possible hands my opponent could have in relation to the board.
- Don't bluff big, don't bluff thin. Bluffing has to be there for mixture, but stop doing it in such desperately big sizes, and when there are so few hands I can represent.

By doings so I should hopefuly decrease 2000-3000bb worths of losing. (Still not enough to break even, but let's take it from there.)
